Vintage American handcrafted basket is woven from sweetgrass & measures 15" long, 10" wide and 2.5" high. It features a wonderful seashell diorama of four vases filled with flowers. As you can see in the photos, the shells are displayed on a fabric-covered piece of cardboard & covered with an old piece of glass. Over the years, some dust has been trapped under the glass but the basket itself & the shell work are all in good condition. The dust just adds to its charm.

I am not sure about the origin of this piece. I bought it years ago from a very knowledgeable dealer of early Americana who said it was Seminole. Whether it was originally made as a souvenir, a craft during the "WPA" days or as a labor of love, I do know it is an authentic piece of vintage folk art.

  • Handmade serving basket/tray woven from seagrass
  • Features seashell diorama of four vases full of flowers
  • Possibly a souvenir piece made by the Seminole tribe
  • Circa 1920's - 1930's

CONDITION:

Good vintage condition.  No damage to the basket or sea shell diorama but dust is trapped under the glass.
