Vintage toy WWII personnel carrier, one-of-a-kind (c 1950s)

This is a nice piece of American folk art - a scaled down version of a WWII personnel carrier, probably made in the late '40's or early 50's. It is handmade from heavy solid wood, weighing 3 lbs. & measures 13" long x 6" high x 5" wide. The 5.5" long "machine gun" rotates on a swivel bracket so the troops being hauled were well protected.

Cleverly designed to roll on four wooden spools, I'd like to think this was made by a doting Grandpa as a special Christmas gift many years ago.
