B18 George Hooks Wiltse Tobacco felt, NY Giants (c 1914)
One of the B18 series of baseball-themed felts released in 1914 as a promotional giveaway to be attached to tobacco products. Also known as flannels or blankets, the entire set consisted of felt images of 90 players from ten major league teams. All used the same design in which the infield is surrounded by colored base paths with the featured baseball player and two pennants related to his team at the center. Each corner includes a baseball, catcher's mask, glove, and baseball bats crossed.
This gold felt features George "Hooks" Wiltse who pitched for the NY Giants from 1904 to 1915. The colors and the image remain vibrant but the edges are frayed which is reflected in the price.
