Antique hand painted tambourine, early American (c early 1900s)
Lovely old folk art painted tambourine believed to date to the turn of the 20th century. It features a hand painted wild flower bouquet on the skin head. There are three sets of metal clappers inserted into the red wooden band which is also adorned with four floral decals. The instrument was definitely used but it remains in good vintage condition.
- Antique folk art tambourine
- Wild flower bouquet hand painted on skin head
- Metal clappers in red wooden band
- Circa late 1880's to early 1900's
Good vintage condition, considering it was obviously used. The skin head is attached to the frame with brass tacks & there are minor tears in the skin on the bottom side where the tacks attach it to the frame. In addition, the paint is worn where the player tapped with hand.
Despite the flaws (which can be seen in the photos), this remains a charming piece of early American folk art.
