Elegant antique hand painted Majolica salad bowl & six plates in the "Hibiscus" pattern. Made by the Zell factory circa 1907-1928. All pieces are marked. This lovely lemon yellow colored set has a red flower & green leaves on a basket weave background with a rope-like trim.
The serving bowl measures 10" in diameter, 12" to the edge of the handles. The plates are 6.75" across.
- Zell Majolica salad bowl & six matching plates
- Hibiscus pattern
- Lemon basket weave background with red flower detail
- Circa 1907 - 1928
CONDITION:
Overall condition is very good. There are a few minor dings on the bottom of the pieces due to factory defects & normal wear but nothing that would keep them from gracing a new table in the 21st century.
All flaws worth mentioning can be seen in the photos include:
- One small chip on the lip of one plate (photo 3)
- Four small smears of the rosy paint on one plate under the glaze, which means it was done at the factory. Perhaps it was a rookie painter who was late for lunch? (photo 4)
Fortunately for those of us who love a good summer salad, these relatively minor flaws do not detract from the charm of this 100 year old Majolica set.
