This is a beautiful example of Victorian celluloid photo button. Typically referred to as "mourning buttons", they were often displayed at a funeral or in the home around the turn of the century.
This example is a 7.5" round tin button covered with a celluloid portrait of an older woman. dressed in her finest clothing. She is surrounded by an array of pale blue & white flowers & green foliage. The display easel on the back of the button was replaced by a wire so it can hang on a wall.
Overall condition is very good with virtually no wear to the face of the button. There is some discoloration due to aging on the back which can be seen in the photo.
