Antique James G. Blaine "Welcome Home" ribbon, dated 1888

Sold Out

A "Welcome" ribbon issued in August 1888 to be worn at the parade celebrating the return of James G. Blaine, a politician who was exiled to Europe for 14 months. This Republican fete was attended by representatives from 29 states and three territories with an estimated 8-10,000 participants in the torchlight procession.

The ribbon features an oval portrait of Blaine over a facsimile of his signature,  a stylized banner reading "New York City" and the date August 1888. The manufacturer's mark at the bottom left reads: "Novelty Card and Adv. g. Chicago".

Measures: 9" long x 3" wide. Very good vintage condition. Minor fraying at the top and bottom. No pin holes so apparently this ribbon didn't go to the parade.
